The Communications and Development Associate duties will be diverse and multi-faceted, therefore excellent professional skills are vital for this role. This candidate will help move forward HC’s communication and social media strategies, create promotional materials, contribute to the development of HC’s website, and interact with HC community and public in verbal and/or written communication. The candidate must possess superb written and verbal communication skills. The person must have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with developing external and internal messaging about the organization, social issues and marketing needs including writing content for print and web communication and marketing for events, newsletters, website, blogs, and brochures.

  • In conjunction with the executive team, plan and manage the design, content, and production of HC marketing materials. Supervise to ensure all content is publication ready.

  • Help prepare and implement communication and social media strategies.

  • Work with different departments to generate innovative ideas and strategies.

  • Assess and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies including maintain detailed media and other communication activity reports. 

  • Serve as point of contact for media and public questions.

  • Monitor HC’s social media and online presence.

  • Respond to communication-related issues in a timely manner.

  • Work with community justice advocates, social media consultants and public relations consultants to develop messaging and produce social media content.

  • Assist with Coordinating meetings, press conferences, and presentations and responding to media inquiries and/or partnerships.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or relevant field.

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role.

  • Proven experience creating targeted content is advantageous.

  • Strong writing skills and knowledge of communication practices and techniques.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure. Must be able to have solid, productive boundaries and work cooperatively with various departments, donors, board, and clients.

  • Excellent organizational and leadership ability.

  • Computer and social media skills including sufficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – especially PowerPoint, MailChimp, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Canva, InDesign, and others. 

  • Spanish language fluency is highly welcomed.
